1877 an albumen print photo of Ruins of the Old Summer Palace, mounted on stockcard, by Thomas Child. 19 x 24.5 cm. Thomas Child arrived at Peking in 1870 as an engineer and spent lots of time in taking photos of Peking, especially the Summer Palace. His photography demonstrated excellent skills by that time. This photo was taken at the front of the building and clearly demonstrated the structure. Unique and highly historical. Photos on the same building but from different angle was offered in 2021 (May) Sungari, lot 7031.
【秋拍拍品介紹：圓明園遺址】
1877年圓明園遺址（諧奇趣）蛋白相片一張，貼於硬卡上，由Thomas Child拍攝。19 x 24.5厘米。Thomas Child於1870年到北京受僱為工程師，工作期間曾花費大量精力拍攝北京風光，尤其是圓明園和頤和園，拍攝水平在當時而言相當出色。極具歷史意義。此相片拍攝諧奇趣之正面，記錄了完整的骨架結構，更顯獨特難得。2021年5月中貿聖佳，拍品號7031為同由Thomas Child所拍攝之諧奇趣相片，但角度不同。
