1899 (7 Jan) Cover to Jas Silverthorne, Chefoo, f.w. scarce Weihaiwei Courier Post 1st issue 2c, in combination with Coiling Dragon 1c, tied by Chefoo Dollar cds.
The addressee, Jas. Silverthorne, was the only listed employee of L.H. Smith & Co. in “”The Chronicle and Directory for China, Japan, Corea…”” for 1898 and 1899. There was also a J. Silverthorne on the staff of Cornabe & Co. merchants in Chefoo in 1898 and for the renamed Cornabe, Eckford & Co. merchants in 1899. A few covers from the same correspondence are known to exist, such as Ryohei Ishikawa, Frederick and Tomiko Bartlett and Elling O Eide collection.

1899.1.7 寄煙台Jas Silverthorne封，貼珍罕之威海衛跑差郵票第一版2分，加貼蟠龍1分，均銷煙台大圓戳。
收件人Jas Silverthorne為L.H. Smith & Co.於《The Chronicle and Directory for China, Japan, Corea…》中列出的唯一員工。1898年煙台Cornabe & Co. merchants亦有同名員工，該公司於1899年改名Cornabe, Eckford & Co. merchants。
同系列的數件存世信封曾見於石川良佐、Frederick and Tomiko Bartlett及Elling O. Eide集藏。
