Inaugural Auction—Special Features 香港首拍 拍品介紹

After China lost the Second Opium War 1856-1860, the Treaty of Tientsin (1858) and Treaty of Peking (1860) provided for opening of foreign legations in Peking, and the safe passage of their mail. The Imperial Maritime Customs (IMC) was charged with delivery of foreign mails in 1866. Customs postal cachets first appeared in 1872 on inbound/outgoing mails. This is the first year usage of the first Customs Post cachet, therefore rightfully the Lot #1 of our Inaugural Sales on 2 July 2022.
