Strong and clear strike of Customs Tamsuy in red, annotated ‘First Mail Steamer’. Hong Kong QV 16c yellow stamp cancelled yb ‘D27’ killer, with Amoy (9 Jan) cds alongside. Arrived London (23 Feb). Opened out, part of flap missing, affecting a transit cds. Original letter sent by Walter Lay within. Lay joined the IMC in 1862 and was the Commissioner of Tamsuy Customs between 1877-1881.
